AFLAC Iron Girl Racine -JULY 31st!

Racine is one of three new communities to host an event in the Aflac Iron Girl National Series, the leader in women’s events. Participants of all ages will swim, bike and run their way through Lake Michigan and around the Racine countryside for the inaugural Aflac Iron Girl Racine Women’s Triathlon on Saturday, July 31, starting at North Beach Park. Dear Mayor (and residents of Racine),
 
This weekend I participated in the Ironman 70.3 triathlon.  I just wanted to thank you for the warm welcome you all extended to us, the race participants.  I heard that there were athletes from 40+ states and 20 different countries.  The city of Racine is a beautiful venue for a race.  The real reason for this note is to thank you all for your support an encouragement!  I was one of the last people to finish that race.  Many many many hours after that first group of athletes went through the course, I was still working my way through it.  I was so pleased to have people in their yards cheering me on.  The run course was lined with people who had set up hoses, showers, and sprinklers for the athletes.  All were kind and encouraging.  Likewise, your police force did an amazing job of holding traffic for us.  Many of them even gave encouraging comments as I passed.  Thank you with putting up with our large scale invasion of your beautiful and even serene lakefront.  Thank you to the hundreds and hundreds of local folks who volunteered to serve in the aid stations and to clean up our trash... especially that trash that was tossed WELL outside of the "toss zone."  Thank you for making my first attempt at the 70.3 distance a memorable one!
